Mount Erciyes is the largest stratovolcano of Central Anatolia (Turkey). It is located in a tectonic depression bound by the Tuz Golu and Ecemis faults.
Erciyes is a huge volcano with a volume of 3300 sq km, and a basal diameter of 60 km.
The volcano contains parasitic cones, lava domes and lava flows. A reported eruption in 253 AD was possibly due to methane releases from a swamp in the Sultansazligi Basin.
